My Top 10 Tips on: Writing, by Meg Meyer

Be a Writer. Everybody’s Doing It

“I should be a writer. Everybody’s doing it,” is an actual quote from someone who snarked on a internet business’ website. It wasn’t my business, I’m just a fan. Even though that person was being sarcastic, I agree with her.

Here is my Top 10 reasons why you should be a writer.

  • 10. You already are.
    • Most folks on the internet already posses a rudimentary knowledge of English writing. Some, better than others, true. But there’s even a place, even a market for those that don’t write past an eighth grade level. (One guy who is, in my opinion, a horrible writer, doesn’t even use spell check, makes thousands of dollars a month, from writing on the internet.)
  • 09. You could make a buck.
    • Like the guy I cited above, there really is money available for writers online.
  • 08. It could make you healthier.
    • People that get out their thoughts, frustrations, and stress in a creative manner are healthier, and live longer than those that keep bottled up.
  • 07. Even the shy can write.
    • With the anonymity that the web provides, even those that are too shy to go up and talk to someone, can write. The “shy, basement-dwelling geek” that I often write for can even be heard, and gain a certain kind of popularity that they wouldn’t find OR BE COMFORTABLE WITH in a live venue.
  • 06. You could make friends.
    • There are millions of people on the web. Chances are there’s someone who thinks like you, likes the same stuff as you, and could become a fan, or a friend from miles away. I, personally, have made some great pen-pals and true friends in my time on the internet.
  • 05. You know something that we want to learn.
    • Everyone has something that they’re exceptionally good at. And everyone has something that they really want to learn. Don’t hide your light! Let it Shine! And if you’re particularly good at certain things, I want to hear about it, over at The Center of Muse.
  • 04. It’ll help your website or cause gain visibility.
    • If you’ve got some ideas or a new way of doing something that just isn’t available anywhere else, in quite the way you offer, folks could spread your idea like wildfire. If you’ve got a cause that you donate time and money to, why not write and get the word out?
  • 03. Google eats words for breakfast.
    • Content is what drives the internet. Websites wouldn’t exist without it. Your words, thoughts, ideas, whines, and celebrations are what makes this online Megaverse possible. What have you done for your web lately?
  • 02. Getting published makes you more valuable.
    • At work, how impressed would your boss be, if you got an article published about your business? Think of the clout, think of the raises, think of the promotions?
  • 01. It’s easy.
    • Ok, so you may not be the next Hemmingway, but to type out your thoughts, hit spellcheck, and ask a few trusted friends to read it – is pretty simple. Serious about it? Join a writing group like the one we offer through MegMeyer.com & The Center of Muse. Hone your work, learn how and where to submit it, and watch your business grow! It’s never been easier to be a writer. Technology, software, services, and a slew of options available for you to get going.

Hey Meg, great post. You are absolutely right – writing is such a fundamental tool of life and it really helps the mind, body, and spirit to workout the writing muscles. The more I write, the better I feel and the more I enjoy it!
