Chris Garret wrote “Get Your First Freeance Blogging Gig” as a guest blog for ProBlogger.net.
In it, he gives some great tips that any freelance writer could use in getting new work. I recommend checking out both sites, for great tips.
I’d add that aspiring freelance writers, bloggers, designers, whatevers be vocal about their desired profession. Don’t hide it, be proud of it. This tip goes back to the old adage: “If doing _________ (fill in the blank with your sweet gig) was a crime, is there enough evidence to convict you?”
Sure, there will be naysayers and doubters. Some may never come around and believe or understand what you do.
But the more you stand by your convictions and desires to write, create, draw, pixellate, or be your own boss in any setting, and the more you announce it, the greater the chance of someone saying “oh, I know someone who could probably use your help.”

Free Blog Hits
In my never ending quest to find the best widgets and whatnots for blogging and marketing, I’m trying out another tool.
It promises to bring free, targeted (this is important for retaining readers) traffic to your site, in exchange for you keeping the widget on your blog.
Take a look, no obligation. It’s not just a free trial. It’s totally free.
It’s like the banner exchange program, from the internet’s earlier days, but without the annoying banners. Seriously… scroll down, it’s in my sidebar.
The only thing I’m not sure of, is it directing traffic away from my site, with articles by the big-names in blogging, but I’ll give it a week or so and see what I think.
