Alzheimer’s Disease effects the brains of more than 5,000,000 Americans. Five. Million. Americans. That’s just under the population of the Cities of Chicago and Los Angeles, combined.
The subject of study, diagnoses & prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease is very personal to me. My Great Aunt Aldene suffered from this leading cause of Dementia for a long time before being diagnosed.
At first, we just thought that she repeated herself a lot. She would tell the same story, about her animals and her kids and tell me I was like her daughter, every we went for pizza. But it got worse. She would tell the same story three times in one visit. Then one car ride.
Her kids didn’t want to believe it. I can’t blame them. Who wants to believe something this awful is happening to their parent?
The truth is, it’s not a normal part of aging. There ARE treatments, that are particularly effective if caught early. You don’t just have to wait for a loved one’s inevitable incapacitation.
Best of all. There’s an organization that’s doing something about it & a way for you to help!
The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a national event to generate awareness and raise money for things like research, support and care for Alzheimer’s patients. The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event of its kind.

As for my Aunt Aldene - she passed away, after a long institutionalization for Alzheimer’s once the family could no longer give her the ’round-the-clock nursing she needed. But it’s never too late to make a difference in this disease that effects so many families, worldwide.
