Writers – when someone asks, “so, what do you do, anyway?” No matter how shy you are, do not downplay the fact that you are a writer, a word-smith, a professional.

Like any other independent profession, it is assumed by the public that what you do cannot be done. It is your job, as a professional writer to educate those you come in contact with. Yes it is. It’s called marketing.

You have to hone your craft. You have to solicit clients / gigs. You have to bring your work in on time and within the budget. You have to set prices that allow you to eat. You have to pay taxes. You have to pay bills. You have to keep yourself healthy so that you are physically able to work. You have to save for your own rainy day.

Just like other entrepreneurs.
